Meet The Curious Crew Podcast: Science Stories for Curious Kids
Every day, children ask questions we can't quite answer. We made a podcast that answers them as stories: five minutes, one question, one idea, one thing to try.
The Curious Crew

Every evening, Mum plugs in her phone, and a small voice asks: “Why does it need charging?” Children’s best questions come from ordinary things: shoes that light up, a teddy that talks, the TV remote. We grown-ups often know the answer is “science”, but not how to tell it simply.
Those small “why” moments are where curiosity starts. So we made a podcast that answers them as stories.
What it is
The Curious Crew: Science for Curious Kids is a series of short science stories, released as audio and video.
- About five minutes, each episode answering one everyday “why” question.
- One voice: Nina, founder and author of The Curious Crew, tells every episode.
- Familiar faces: Sofia, Viktor and Mr. Tie the dog from our books, in the original book illustrations.
- Where to find it: on Spotify and YouTube, with short teasers on Instagram.
A story, not a lesson
Many science resources for children are lists of facts. We think a story is easier to follow and to remember. So every episode is a small journey: in Episode 1, children follow Whoosh the breeze as it turns a giant windmill, and the electricity zooms all the way to the socket at home.
- Linked episodes. Each one ends on the question the next one answers, so children come back to find out what happens next.
- Thinking pauses. A few seconds of quiet after a question, so children can guess before they hear the answer.
- Try it at home. A small experiment in every episode moves the answer from the screen into children’s hands.
- Made for families. Calm, short and free of advertising aimed at children: five minutes that fit into a car ride or bedtime.
Inside an episode
Take Episode 2, Why Does Mum’s Phone Need Charging?
- The question: every evening, Mum’s phone gets hungry. But what is it eating?
- The journey: Nina follows the phone through one whole day. It fills a little “lunchbox” of energy overnight, then takes a nibble for every song, photo and call with Grandma.
- The big idea: by evening, it is hungry for its dinner again. Just like you!
- Try it at home: play the battery game with a cup of water, a spoon and a bowl, and watch your “battery” empty and fill up again.
- The next question: why do some shoes light up when you jump?
Five minutes, one question, one idea, one thing to try.
Season 1 and what comes next
Season 1 is a technology series of ten episodes. It runs from where electricity comes from, through Mum’s phone, light-up shoes, a talking teddy, the touch screen, headphones and the TV remote, to a finale with a video call to Grandma. That finale ends on a new question, “Why do we yawn?”, which opens Season 2, One Big Day: one child, from bedtime to the next bath time, exploring dreams, hiccups, goosebumps and wrinkly bath fingers.
Every season is one connected story, so children can follow it from start to finish.
Press play together, and stay curious.
